Outside The Block, Part 1

If you have followed my blog for the last year, you probably think that all I do is quilt. And that is pretty close to the truth! However, there are a few other things that I like to do and I thought I would share them with you occasionally in a blog called "Outside the Block". My clever Public Relations daughter came up with that catchy title -- a play on "outside the box" but with a quilty twist. In the spring and summer, Tom and I like to play in the dirt. He plants our vegetable garden and I plant annuals to spruce up our deck and patio. I like to plant a variety of flowers in several different sizes of pots. Powerful Patriotic Quilts To Give Your Home Some Punch

There is just something satisfying about a quilt made with fabrics in red, white, and blue. Maybe I feel that way since I have quilted 15 Quilts of Valor so far this year and the fabrics have been really gorgeous. The thought of those quilts being awarded to veterans who have been touched by war also brings a smile to my face. Quilts with these colors also scream "summer". As a result, I was excited when Memorial Day came around and I could decorate with my stash of patriotic quilts. One of my favorite quilts is called Proud Patriot and is a pattern that I downloaded from Connecting Threads. I first saw this pattern at a demonstration on English Paper-Piecing at the Homestead National Monume
