A Special Ceremony to Honor Veterans

The Forest Acres Quilting Club was privileged to award three Quilts of Valor to residents of Gold Crest Retirement Center in Adams on January 16, 2018. There was a nice audience in attendance as there had been a musical program in the chapel just prior to our ceremony. Honored veterans were Army veteran Elmer Heitbrink of Panama, Army veteran Harry Schmale of Cortland, and Marine veteran Kenneth Gadeken of Sterling. Elmer Heitbrink was drafted into the Army in 1944 and was trained in the tank division. He spent one year in Osaka, Japan in the 1st Cavalry Armed Division under General Chase. The Delightful Quest to Construct a Quilt, Part Three

I had to chuckle when I noticed that “Part Two” of this blog post was published on April 23, 2017. After eight months I am pleased to report that the quilt is finally finished! No “Part Four” for this blog! When last we visited I had completed the pieced blocks and now it was time to put the rows together to form the center of the quilt. This was a relatively easy process because all of the blocks were the same size - no adjustments were needed. It was rather time-consuming, however, because there were fifteen rows. UFOs in the Quilty Universe

Unidentifiable Flying Objects?? Not exactly. In the quilting world we refer to UFOs as Un-Finished Objects. I’m sure that most quilters can admit to having at least a couple of UFOs laying around their sewing room. I do know of a few quilters, however, that won’t start another project until one is completely finished. I’m afraid that I do not fall into that category. I like to have several projects going at once depending on what I feel like doing at that moment — choosing a pattern and fabric, cutting, piecing, quilting, or binding. Since today is New Year’s Day I thought it would be appropriate to make a list of my UFOs and make a resolution to finish these by the end of 2018. Let’s face i
