In my continuing quest to try new things in my retirement, I added yet another new experience on Saturday, July 22nd -- I went on a bus trip! The Panama Quilt Guild sponsored their annual bus trip that took 52 ladies to five quilt shops. Some in the group had a list of items to look for throughout the day. I did not have a list and, if I am being truly honest, I really didn't need to purchase any more fabric! Did that stop me? No!! Our day began when we gathered at 6:45 a.m.
Tom and I made a trip to Dubuque, Iowa at the end of April to visit our daughter, Lindsay, and help with the Loras College Dance Marathon -- a wonderful event that annually raises over $200,000 for the Children's Miracle Network and the University of Iowa Children's Hospital. On our way to Dubuque we ventured off of the interstate and explored some new parts of Iowa which, of course, included five quilt shops! The Forest Acres Quilting Club was honored to award two Quilts of Valor at the Adams Veterans of Foreign Wars meeting at the Community Building on June 26th. The recipients of our quilts were Korean War veterans Merlyn Saathoff of Sterling and Gorden Mills of Adams. Approximately 16 VFW and VFW Auxiliary members were in attendance, as well as several family members of Merlyn and Gorden.
