My Latest Quilting Adventure

In my continuing quest for new experiences during my retirement, I added yet another to my list earlier this month. Many quilt guilds and sewing groups have "sew days" where they get together and spend the day working on either individual projects or a group project. February 4th was Quilt of Valor's National Sew Day and I spent the day in York sewing with a group to make quilts to award to veterans. The Sew Day was held at the York County Fairgrounds Event Center. There were 13 sewing machines, five ironing stations, and two cutting stations. Some people brought their own machines and others were supplied a machine by the Extension office. Some people worked individually while others worked

Instant Color in the Gray Days of February

Happy Valentine’s Day quilting friends!! It would be a shame to let such a colorful holiday go by without a few Valentine quilts to brighten this usually gloomy part of the year. I generally get the Valentine quilts out right after I put the Christmas decorations away. So we have been enjoying these red, pink, and white beauties for a little over a month now. This 28” x 28” table topper is the perfect size for the end table next to our family room recliner. I found the pattern called Homespun Love in the February 2005 edition of Quilter’s World magazine. As the name suggests it is made from homespun fabric which has a looser weave than regular cotton fabric which works equally well in quilts

A Patriotic Quilt Full of Comfort

The Forest Acres Quilting Club was honored to award another Quilt of Valor at the Gage County Board of Supervisors meeting on February 1, 2017. The board recognizes a veteran from Gage County at each of their bi-monthly meetings. I was excited to learn of this possibility as it gave our club yet another venue in which to award a Quilt of Valor and spread the word about the QOV Foundation. One of the board members is Myron Dorn of Adams whose brother Leon is a good friend of our family. Leon is the one who initially alerted me to this opportunity. Our fourth Quilt of Valor was awarded to Alvin Weber, a member of the Adams VFW. Alvin enlisted in the United States Army in October 1949. His unit
