Just Another Reason to Visit an Irresistible Quilt Shop

I have heard a lot of about a concept called “Row By Row” over the last few years, but had never before pursued a collection of the rows. In case you are unfamiliar with the Row By Row experience, let me give you a short tutorial. Many quilts shops throughout the US, Canada, and Europe participate in the Row By Row experience by creating their own unique quilt block that measures 9 ½” x 36 ½”. Quilters are encouraged to collect a minimum of 8 rows and create a quilt. The first person to finish their quilt, including the piecing, quilting, binding, and label, can take their quilt to one of the stores from which they received a row pattern to receive a prize -- usually about 25 fat quarters

A Dazzling Design from Start to Finish

My friend and colleague from Irving Middle School, Nancy Coniglio, commissioned me to make a quilt for her den. She did not have a lot of specifics in minds for the quilt except that it had to be purple and should measure 26” by 32”. To say that Nancy likes purple is a huge understatement. Her den is actually painted a really pretty color of pale purple and is decorated with several other purple pieces as well. The day she asked me to make this quilt, my mind began swimming with ideas. From Trick Skirt to A Kroj Made for a Queen

My husband, Tom, is 100% Czech and since we live only 20 miles from Wilber, NE, the Czech Capital of the US, Czech Days are a big part of our family. Our involvement began when the Howells Hotshots were playing in the parade and we decided that we should attend and cheer them on. One of the members of the group was the father of a good friend. While we were there we also had the opportunity to see the Wilber Czech dancers, a group of children dressed in Czech folk costumes dancing the two-step. Tom immediately wanted to know how our girls could be involved, too. So the next summer we travelled to Wilber once a week so Sara and Melissa could learn to dance and perform at Czech Days.
